What options are there in After Effects besides the Stroke Effect (since it’s not supported) to achieve the the hard writing effect? For example, I would like to create Lottie animations depicting the process of writing Chinese characters, stroke by stroke in order.
Is Trim Paths the go to method? or is there another method? Any links to videos or documentations you can share would be greatly appreciated!
Hello, @myloweslife
For creating the hard writing effect in After Effects, especially for animating Chinese characters stroke by stroke, Trim Paths is indeed a popular and effective method. Here are a few steps and resources to help you get started:
Using Trim Paths
Create a Shape Layer: Draw the path of the stroke using the Pen Tool.
Add Trim Paths: Go to the shape layer’s contents, add a Trim Paths animator.
Animate the Stroke: Adjust the start and end properties of the Trim Paths to animate the stroke.
Alternative Methods
Masking: You can use masks to reveal the strokes. Draw the strokes as separate layers and animate masks to reveal them sequentially.
Write-on Effect: Although not as precise, the Write-on effect can be used to simulate the writing process by animating the brush position.
Feel free to explore these methods and see which one works best for your project.
